After breakfast, the 7-day Sahara Morocco tour continues south through Imouzzer to visit Ifrane, famous for its cool climate, winter snow, and alpine-style houses—hence the nickname “the Switzerland of Morocco.” We then continue to the cedar forest, home to wild Barbary macaques; enjoy a short walk among the ancient trees. Later, we continue to Midelt for free time at lunch, then drive over the Tizi n’Talghamt Pass and along the Ziz Valley, with stops for panoramic views.
In the afternoon we reach the Sahara desert of Merzouga, where you switch to camels and cross the dunes, pausing atop a high dune to enjoy the sunset. Continue to your desert camp—a blend of traditional nomad tents and modern comforts—where you can enjoy Berber drumming around the campfire beneath a vast, star-filled sky. Overnight at a desert camp.
After breakfast, we dedicate the day to exploring the Merzouga region—sand dunes, a seasonal lake, mines, fossil areas, and palm oases—ideal for a range of outdoor activities. We start with an off-road drive to an old kohl (eyeliner) mine, then visit nomad families in their woven tents and learn about their way of life over a glass of Berber tea.
Next, we continue to Khamlia to enjoy Gnawa music and dance performances; many villagers trace their heritage to Mali, Sudan, and Niger. After free time for lunch, stroll through a palm grove, then drive a few kilometers to see Merzouga’s seasonal lake (often home to flamingos). Return to Merzouga. Dinner and overnight in a hotel.
Rise early to watch the sunrise over the dunes—it’s a must. After breakfast, we leave the desert for Rissani, the former capital of Tafilalet and a major trading center with a lively souk on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays. Continue to Erfoud to visit a fossilized marble workshop.
We then drive through the palm groves of Touroug and Tinjdad to reach the Todra Gorges, where the river has carved a spectacular canyon with towering red cliffs popular with rock climbers. Enjoy free time to wander the gorge and have lunch. In the afternoon, continue to the Dades Valley via Boumalne Dades, stopping at the “Monkey Fingers” rock formations and a scenic viewpoint over the valley. Dinner and overnight in a hotel.

We have been in Morocco for 7 days, and it has been a great experience. With Ismail everything went perfect, he knows all the places in the country and explains everything very well, so that you know at all times what you are visiting, the camp is like something out of a dream, the food is spectacular in the smallest detail, the beds are very comfortable, the water is warm. In addition, all the staff is very pleasant and we have lived an unforgettable experience!
My husband and I went on a 7-day tour to celebrate my birthday, and Moroccan Tours did NOT disappoint! Firstly, Ismail made the booking process extremely easy. He was pleasant, helpful, and responded to my messages promptly. He also helped me book an additional outing (hot air balloon ride) for the day after our tour ended. Secondly, our driver/guide, Hmad, took AMAZING care of us! Hmad truly is a phenomenal human being that went out of his way to ensure that we were safe, content, and had an incredible adventure in Morocco. He was hilarious, friendly, and highly informative. We had many interesting conversations with him during our trip that helped pass the hours in the car.
Overall, Morocco is a gorgeous country that is full of kind, generous, and charismatic people, and this tour was undoubtedly the best way to experience their rich culture. I wholeheartedly believe that this trip would not have been as meaningful as it was if we had done it on our own since the itinerary was perfectly curated and our private tour enabled us to visit people/places tourists would not discover on their own. Furthermore, having a local guide permitted us to learn so much about the country that we could not discover in any book or simple Google search. My advice to you, Dear Reader, is to book with Moroccan Tours. It made my birthday unforgettable!
